This article may be useful if you need information on Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship Programmes or Electrician Training Courses.

The main qualification in the building services services for engineering are:

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) or Scottish Vocational Qualifications
National Certificate and National Diploma
Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND)
Degree level – BEng and MSc

Electrical Engineering Qualifications
For apprentices and students working toward NVQ, BTEC, City & Guilds and Foundation Degree qualifications, there are courses available at training centres and colleges thoughout the UK.
Many colleges offering electrical installation and technician courses also run apprenticeship schemes.  These schemes may also include funding.

Electrical Installation

These include Electrical Installation Courses up to Advanced Level 3.  NVQ Level 3 is required to become a fully qualified electrician and enable you to work in  domestic, commercial, maintenance, or media and entertainment industries.

Course Funding

Many of the electrical installation courses are fully funded by the Learning & Skills Council and are free of charge to  Apprentices aged 16 to 18.   However a contribution to the cost of the course is required from the employer for students aged 19 to 24.

Attendance

Most courses are Full Time or Day Release

Further Training After achieving level 3 many candidates go on to take the Domestic Installer (Part P) Scheme course to enable them to self-certify their domestic elctrical installation work.  In England and Wales Part P of the Building Regulations requires that domestic installers must be registered with a competent person scheme.    Inspection, Testing and Certification qualification (C&G 2391-10) is another qualification that is useful for electricians.   This course covers all aspects in the testing and certification of electrical installations, taking into account the requirements of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and the Electricity at Work Regulations. Portable Appliance Testing (C&G 2377)PAT Testing) is a qualification that can lead to another source of work for electricians.
