Suggetions of how to find work as an Apprentice / Trainee Electrician.

This section may be helpful to those wishing to find an Apprentice or Trainee Electrician job vacancy.  You can add you details to the listing at the bottom of the page for free.  Prospective employers may then find this page by searching online.

Here are some suggestions of how to start to find Apprentice Electrician or Trainee Electrician vacancies in your area:

  • Get a free listing on this page by using the comments form below this article. You could do a ‘+1′ and some FaceBook liking whilst you’re down there and don’t forget to include your area and email address in your comment.
  • You could start by looking for work as an electrician’s mate whilst checking out your options for enrolling on a college course.
  • Tell  friends and family that you want to train as an electrician.  They may know electricians or meet them on site and can ask about work for you.
  • Search for companies in local publications such as phone books and trade directories.  You can telephone the company or send your CV.  You can ask if they have any job vacancies and also offer to send your CV.  They can then keep your details on record and can contact you should any vacancy arise in the future.
  • Search online for local electrical businesses and electrical contractors that you think may be suitable.  Make a shortlist  and then contact them by telephone or in person and offer them your CV.  Simply emailing them is not a good idea.
  • Online Electrical Forums and websites such as ElectriciansForums can be a good place to find out about apprentice electrician jobs and learn more about the electrical work and the construction industry.
  • Many colleges and training centres run their own trade trainee apprenticeships schemes and will often try to find permanent placements for their students with local electrical contractors.
  • Try local recruitment and employment agencies such as Job Centre Plus.  They will have contacts with companies who may recruiting trainees / apprentices.
  • Classified Ads for trainee electrician jobs in your Local Papers.
  • Search the Apprenticeship Vacancies website.

Electrical Courses

Many of the electrical installation courses for electrical apprentices are fully funded by the government and are free of charge for students aged 16 to 18.   However a contribution to the cost of the course is required from the employer for trainees aged 19 to 24.  Courses may be block or day release and the Level 3 qualification will require trainees to be working  in a permanently employed position.  To find out more about NVQ, BTEC and City & Guilds electrical training you can read the article about electrical engineering and apprenticeship courses.

Ovi September 23, 2011 at 08:22

WOODFORD GREEN, ESSEX, LONDON. Security systems technician.
I have experience in working with security systems such as intruder alarm, fire alarm, CCTV and control access.
I‘m able to design a security system, checking on site, with a plan, all the equipment that is needed, if the locations are the right ones not to get false alarms in the future, if the security systems cover all the important areas that need to be protected and all the necessary materials needed to finish the job. Good knowledge of wiring the security systems, zone labeling and to partition the system and program it in conformation with the client’s needs.
The strongest area of mine are the intruder alarm systems, starting from the design; drawing the location, if it doesn’t have a construction plan (usually needed on small installations) with the equipment, the cables used, the zones, all the wiring details that are needed to be known (if there is a fault to know where to find it and extremely important for future service); wiring and installation of equipment, verifying the installed systems and finishing with hand over to the client. Some of the systems I’ve worked with are Digiplex Evo 848, Digiplex 848, Spectra, Esprit, DSC, Gemini, Penta. Of course my work didn’t involve only the installation but also the commissioning of other systems (servicing, finding faults, changing codes, upgrades, changing the communication of the system to the new company monitoring computer).
My experience with CCTV and control access lies in wiring and installation of the equipment, verifying if everything is working, finding and fixing the faults when servicing, but not too confident on some software matters (for example enrolling access card ),didn’t have enough training; knowledge of installing fire systems with conventional and addressable panels.
My experience has been built around four years of work wiring, installing and commissioning security systems to houses, warehouses, office buildings and banks. The only disadvantage that I have is that I don’t have work experience in the UK coming from the EEA and for the moment being able to work on self employment (my situation is pending). All the adequate training that I might need I can do around the job in evenings and weekends or whenever is suitable for you.
For the right employer I can be a good acquisition, because I am only interested in long term work (it’s not in my character to stay 2 or 3 months and fly to another job), a good team player with understanding when is needed to work more hours in order to finish a job and the responsibility implied in my work and flexibility when it comes to be away from home for several days.
Having an idea of my skills I will consider any job suitable for me, every job is important for me being it just the wiring of a security system.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Email- rrr_ovi @ yahoo.com)

Guy Sillis September 15, 2011 at 17:18

ENFIELD, MIDDLESEX. My name is Guy Sillis I am 22 and currently retraining to become a electrician. I am currently enroled on one of these intensive courses. This will gain me a range of qualifications, these include Part P, building regs, PAT testing and testing and inspection 2392/2391. These are to a City and Guild standard. Although i will be gaining these qualifications i feel as if this is just an insite to my learning. I would therefore be looking to work along side a electrician on a apprentise/mate basis. I’m a very keen and enthusiastic person and very keen to learn. I am always on time and have great people and customer skills, can work either as a team or on my own. I spent the last 3 years in the motor trade within a massive company. I have just currently quit this job to concentrate on my studies and to proceed a career as a electrician. I’m a very hard worker and will do any job to the best of my ability.
I have a full driving licence with the use of my own car. I have my own work gear with a growing amount of tools.

LIVERPOOL – Hi, I am currently studying for the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation.

With your help I would very much like the opportunity to gain experience within the industry unpaid / voluntary. I am currently working as an Accounts Clerk in Liverpool City Centre. My constant need to keep myself active not only physically but mentally has led me to my chosen career path of being an Electrician. I am very flexible and methodical in my approach to work, I pay particular attention to detail and I would very much appreciate any opportunity you have so that I may learn the basic fundamentals. I learn very quickly and I will be happy to help in any way possible, even the smallest of jobs.
Thanks for reading and I would be greatful for any positive feedback. Email- p-radcliffe1 @ hotmail.co.uk Tel- 07742087402

LONDON, LAMBETH. Im currently studying at Lambeth college, doing EAl level 3 electrotechnical diploma, i have 1 year to go. Im a mature student 41yrs, always wanted to be a spark, love working with cables and electrical circuits. Given the opportunity, i am very hard working, punctual, commited and dedicated to becoming an electrician. Obviously at my age now im finding it very difficult to find someone to give me an opportunity to not only prove to myself, but also any perspective employers that i have what it takes to reach this goal. Would very much appreciate any advice or job opportunity. Thank you. Email: shmc70 @ hotmail.co.uk
