Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification book by Chris Kitcher

Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

I enjoyed reading through this book and would definately recommend it to any electrician or trainee who intends to carry out inspection and testing. It gives very good explainations of the equipment needed, sequence of electrical tests, the testing procedures and how to fill out certificates with lots of colour photos of the actual testing. Everything you’d need to know to become a proficient inspector of electrical installations is in this book.

Chris also covers the correct sizing and types of Protective Devices and gives some good examples types of fuses and breakers and their operating/trip times.

Readers will be able to access a free companion website where they will find related videos, questions and answers and links to further info about inspection, testing and certification.

The excercises and questions section and the video demonstrations give useful and essential information for anyone wanting to take their City & Guilds 2394 and 2395 exams. All 17 videos are refer to pages in the book and Chris’s comments and tips help to explain each test and it’s procedures.

This Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification covers the following areas for both Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection of electrical installations including PV systems:

  • The Legal Requirements
  • Types of Certification
  • Initial Verification
  • Periodic Testing
  • Earth Electrode Testing
  • Completion of Certificates
  • The correct selection of protective devices
  • Electrical testing equipment
  • Electric shock and ingress protection
  • Testing Photovoltaic systems
  • Excercises and questions

This guide will also help prepare electrical apprentices studying on NVQ, QCF or EAL electrical courses and also electricians taking a Part P Compenent Persons qualification- C&G 2356 & 2357.

Overall it’s an essential guide that even experienced electricians would find useful.
