I need to reconfigure the layout of a dual RCD Consumer Unit

by Editor on August 2, 2014

Hi Steve
I need to reconfigure the layout of a dual RCD with separate incomer and the supplied link cables are too short.
Can I use other types of cable, and what size should they be?

Hi Alf.
Yes no problem using other types of cable as long as they are suitable for the maximum loadings they will be handling. I usually keep some spare consumer units and use parts such as terminal bars and cable links to make up new configurations. I find Hagar are good for this as they have flexible tails. It’s best practice (and highly recommended) to always use the same manufacture’s boards, breakers and parts such as bussbars and terminals when making up your own dist boards and consumer units.
All the best
Steve
